Farmhouse Living Room // A Sofa for a New Room

THE FARMHOUSE

I’m excited to tell you about a new project at the farmhouse…the living room! We’ve hardly touched this space since we moved in, other than to pile toys in there, meaning it’s a glorified playroom.  A playroom with large wood windows overlooking the wrap around porch and tall ceilings accentuated by the picture molding.  The room is full of potential and we have big goals for it!

Here is what the space looked like when we moved in:

Our goals for this space are a beautiful yet comfortable living room.  I debated about creating a more formal living room, but quickly decided that formality just didn’t fit our country lifestyle.  So we’re going to turn the living room into a space where people actually like to live.  We imagine playing, reading, and cozying up for movie nights with our kiddos and guests in here.

I’ll share more about the design plan soon, but today I wanted to talk about the focus of the room – the sofa.  Since sofas are often custom orders that take 8+ weeks to deliver, we picked ours out last month.  Garrett and I had such a good experience with Interior Define at the Dexter House (pictured below) that we knew we wanted to use them again for our sofa at the Farmhouse.

We get so many compliments on our Interior Define Rose sofa.  It’s held up amazingly well to our boys, overactive dog, and all the Airbnb guests that have cycled through (the Dexter House became a rental when we moved to the farmhouse).  Plus, I checked in on it a few weeks back, and it still looks brand new.  Consider this mama’s (and landlord’s) expectations exceeded!

When Garrett and I started talking about tackling the farmhouse living room, I reached out to Interior Define to see if they’d be interested in partnering on our new living room (I didn’t mention that I was going to buy a sofa from them whether they said yes or not…;) ).  And I’m really excited to tell you guys that they agreed to partner with me so this post is in partnership with Interior Define (!!!).  The best part is that I get to give one of you guys a big, fat credit to ID this winter (more on that soon)!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Interior Define, it’s a made-to-order, design-forward sofa company based in Chicago.  They have streamlined the sofa buying process by cutting out the middle man and selling direct to consumers like you and me.  The things that drew me to the company in the first place were the online reviews, affordability, free shipping, and returns (a rarity in sofa companies).

Last month, I ordered swatches in various colors and fabrics to start the design process.  They arrived at our home in a few days.  We love the beauty and durability of the Dexter House velvet fabric, but I also wanted to explore a few other options before making a decision.  I toyed with the idea of a natural linen sofa, but in the end, I settled on a lovely dark blue velvet called Oxford Blue.  The blue velvet will be the focus of our space, add an eclectic vibe to the room, and hold up to whatever our kiddos and dog can throw at it (un-capped markers and muddy paws, I’m looking at you!).

We debated about getting another Rose sofa for the farmhouse – it’s just such a pretty sofa – but in the end, Garrett and I both wanted something a little more cozy and streamlined.  I looked through the reviews and measured our space, and ultimately selected the 102″-long Harper sofa.

I ordered it online last month and can’t wait for this slightly-glamorous, yet relaxed sofa to arrive! I know the navy sofa is a bit of a bold choice for an old farmhouse, but it’s going to be stunning and most importantly, so cozy for movie night!

xoxo
