The Wild Child's Adventure Nursery

Welcome to baby Wilder's nursery!
Our little wild child's room is probably my favorite spot in the Ravenna House. When we moved in two months ago, I was thrilled - thrilled! - to get to do another nursery. There's something so special about a little one's space - where they grow and learn and sleep (sometimes). And they're just so fun - lions, tigers, bears, tutu's, race cars - everything goes.
Wilder's nursery is 130sf, which is almost double as big as his room at the Bryant House. I've filled it with a crib, changing table/dresser, rocker, suit-case-pile-of-a-nightstand, and a bookcase for all the little rascal's toys and storybooks. Plus there's still room for playing and general shenanigans, which happen to be Wilder's specialty. You can often find the whole family in there, stacking blocks (or knocking them over), reading stories, or rolling around on the rug. And that's what I love about this room- there's plenty of space to hang out.
That and his little bench. I am head over heels for his built-in, corner bench. The refinished oak has a great patina that literally took decades to perfect. Just imagine all the kids who have played there before Wilder. Each one leaving their own marks and dents in it. It's just the sweetest little spot. Made for the sweetest little kids to play and laugh and be curious.
This room didn't need a ton of work, besides the house-wide electrical, mechanical, and plumbing updates. Just a couple coats of paint, changing out hardware and lighting, and refinishing the hardwoods. Here's what this room looked like back in October:
It's come a long way! I suppose that when I said "it didn't need a ton of work", I really meant that compared to the Ravenna House's kitchen and bathroom, it wasn't a ton of work. But really it was. Six months of scrapping and prying and sanding and painting, and this is what the room looks like now:

We didn't buy much furniture for this room - just Wilder's dresser off of Craigslist - the rest we pulled from his last nursery or found it in storage and dusted it off. Luckily most of it fits with the adventure theme I'm going for. Adventure with a hint of vintage and safari. Our baby loves animals and exploring, so adventure fits him perfectly.
I still have a lot of decorating left to do. The walls are embarrassingly bare right now. I've got big plans for a large world map, vintage animal prints, an alphabet chart, and maybe even a small pair of antlers. Plus lots more cuddly stuffed animals and books. Stuff like this:

p.p.p.s. And while we're talking about treehouses...I've never seen one quite like this before. I'm pretty sure it's bigger then our whole house, but it's amazing!
