Happy Friday + Links (10/13/17)

Happy Friday (the 13th)! Perhaps it's the chill in the air or the fact that having a newborn has kept me at home more than usual this Fall, but I've been making small tweaks all over the Farmhouse to get our home ready for the cold months ahead.  And by that, I mean cozier and comfier before the weather forces us indoors.  I must admit that even though we've lived at the Farmhouse for over a year, many of the rooms feel far less than homey.  This house is larger than our previous homes, and we moved in with very little furniture (since we used much of our furniture for our furnished rentals), so it's been a process to get our home decorated.  It doesn't help that I'm one of those people who likes to live in a space for awhile and get to know how it will function best before we spend money on furniture.  And while I think it's a great design philosophy in general - especially if you don't want to waste much money on making design mistakes - it can mean waiting a long time before spaces feel just right. The Grit and Polish - DIY nursery glider final close

I've been trying to change that as of late with small tweaks around the Farmhouse.  I moved the large hutch from the office into the living room for much needed toy storage, bought a couple of large, cotton blankets for cuddling up with the kids, found a cozy armchair for our bedroom, made a glider for Daphne's nursery (seen above; DIY post coming soon), and rearranged the couch for a cozier feel.  And I don't want to over sell these small changes, our house feels one million times cozier! ;)  I'll share more of these tweaks here or over on Instagram soon, but in the meantime, I'd love to hear what you guys do to get ready for winter.  Especially if you make any changes in preparation for long days with cooped up kids!

Well it's Friday again, which means I've scoured the internet for all sorts of good links.  Grab a cup of coffee and jump in.

Having lost our beloved dog earlier this year, this tribute to ‘the greatest dog in the world’ really hit home.

Picky eaters...do you have one?

I love seeing kids at work, and that includes Jenna Dewan Tatum doing her dance thing.

Did you watch ‘The Big Short’?  It's a good one.  And this guy who you may remember from the movie, just won the Nobel Prize.  Consider me impressed!

We bought these string lights for the Farmhouse last summer and will put something similar above the Porch House patio (bonus: they're on sale!).

Chloe's blog, Boxwood Avenue, is such a fun one to follow.  You never know if you're going to see a beautiful kitchen (oh my that Lacanche range!!!) or her goats or a made-from-scratch recipe.  Plus right now, Chole is taking part as a featured designer for the One Room Challenge and it looks like we'll be seeing her on TV soon!

Speaking of TV, Lauren's show got picked up!  Excited to see more 'Best House on the Block' on HGTV next year.

PSA: one of my favorite online stores (emphasis on online...a necessity when living in a small town!) for decor and textiles is having their friends and family event.  Use code 'HAPPYDAYS' to get 20% off of everything, including markdowns!  Here are a few favorites, including the super soft baby blanket I bought for Wilder 4 years ago, which is still one of my my go-to newborn gifts:

[show_lookbook_widget id="373455"] Pretty sure Daphne's nursery is going to get a few of these!

Have a great weekend!
