Our 2019 Holiday Home Tour

THE FARMHOUSE

I have to admit, we don’t feel very prepared for Christmas this year. Something to do with wrapping up a kitchen remodel in the middle of December. There are no presents under our tree and there’s no way we’re getting Christmas cards out this year (for the first time in forever). But we do have a tree. So that’s a win. And there’s a whole lot of excitement and holiday cheer at our Farmhouse.

So today we wanted to welcome you in for our annual holiday home tour.

I feel like I should warn you in advance that we’re not just showing the ‘finished’ spaces in our home. We’ll be taking you through the dining room and living room, two rooms that are on my list for 2020 (or 2021…or someday). But I wanted to show you them anyway because home is worth celebrating at all stages.

Hope you enjoy this look into our Farmhouse.

For the record, Garrett is not a fan of natural garlands (ours came from Costco). They dry out and shed and are generally a mess. So to mitigate that, I didn’t waited to hang these until just this week. I figure we can handle a week of frequent vacuuming. Fresh garlands are so pretty and smell so great and they’re totally worth a few days of hassle. At least in my book.

We went up in the mountains this year to pick out our Christmas tree like we did last year. I love trees from the mountains…but admittedly they never quite look like the ones from the tree lots. They’re lumpy and bumpy and never perfectly full, but they do come with the best memories. At least they do for us. And we had a blast picking this one out!

We gave our kids free reign over decorating this tree. Garrett and I got the ornaments out, added hooks, and lifted the kids up, but they did the decorating. And they are SO dang proud of this tree! It makes me smile every time I see it.

I mentioned our living room is on my list, but mostly I just want to figure out the furnishings. We threw in a spare rug we had from the Ravenna House (I’ve been saving it for our guest bedroom whenever we get around to that room) and the white couch came from the Porch House living room. It’s not perfect but it works for now.

We don’t show much of our dining room here on the blog. Probably because we’ve never done a thing to it. It’s full of historic charm and we love that so much, but it’s basically just a collection of old furniture.

Currently we have 3 tables in here…yes 3! And it’s awesome. We use the large table for family meals, the small table by the windows for puzzles and games, and the extra small table is the kid’s domain. Some day we’ll get around to ‘doing’ this space, but in the meantime, this works just fine.

The kitchen was the first room we decorated. It’s definitely the room we spend the most time in now and I’m hoping to spend even more time in here over Christmas break. Because the kids and I are gonna bake, bake, bake!

The oranges are so fun in the kitchen. I shared a DIY on that garland right here if you’re interested.

Our master bedroom got a little holiday charm too. We shared more of this space here. We went with a traditional red and green theme.
