The Last Few Projects We Have Left To Do at the Farmhouse

THE FARMHOUSE

So often it takes the impetus of listing a home for sale to finally tackle those last few projects. You know, the ones that you’ve been meaning to do but end up putting off again and again until suddenly it’s 7 years later. Well we have three of those projects and with our imminent move they’re now on the top of our to-do list. Read on for the details…

Project 1 // Refinish the hardwood floors

Back in 2021 we talked about why we hadn’t refinished our kitchen hardwood floors and we were glad we hadn’t. But if I could do it all over again, we would have refinished the dang floors! Actually I would have refinished all of the hardwoods in the whole house before moving in back in 2016. Because refinishing floors is a GIANT pain - you basically have to empty everything out the rooms you’re refinishing - furniture, rugs, books, curtains, art, everything - find a spot to store that stuff, and then move it all back in when you’re done. That process is much easier when you don’t have anything in the house to begin with. But you know what they say… The best time to plant a tree was decades ago. The second best time to plant a tree is today. So today it is!

These original fir floors are going to look so good when they’re refinished! We’re going to tackle the kitchen, living room, dining room, entry, and office floors, so it’s going to be a big project.

Project 2 // Finish the exterior

The Farmhouse has one of those classically beautiful exteriors that will always be a show stopper. But we’ve been slowly enhancing the beauty over the years, coaxing out every detail with a simple white paint job (I couldn’t love the colors anymore!), laying a cobblestone paver walkway, landscaping, etc

light, screen doors, paint color, hat, jeans (Montgomery wash), top, sandals

This Spring we finally started to think about the exterior lighting and I’ll share what we picked later this week. The new lighting will be installed soon with Papa’s help and we’ll zhushing-up the side entrances, too. Can’t wait to see this beautiful home with it’s new (and classic) lighting!

Project 3 // swap the Stair Runner

The Farmhouse has the loveliest stair case but it came with a plain brown runner that’s never done it justice. I’ve been talking about swapping it out since we moved in 7 years ago and I don’t know why I’ve put it off for so long, but here we are. So this month we’ll be removing the brown rug and adding a new runner in conjunction with the floor refinish. I can’t wait!

Those are the 3 major projects we’ll be finishing before listing the Farmhouse for sale. I’m pretty sure that once they’re finally done we’ll be saying “why didn’t we do this years ago?!”. Ha! Stay tuned for more here on the blog and on Instagram. Eeek! We’re going to be busy.
