All the Details on our Cute Glass Door
THE POPLAR COTTAGE
It may sound funny, but one of the things I like best about the Poplar Cottage are the doors. They’re beautiful, close well, and have the best heavy-in-the-hand hardware. When I shared the main bedroom and the glass door we added to that space, I got a lot of questions. So today we’re sharing all the details.

Cute door, right?! I know there were reasons we decided to go with a glass door in here, but it was a decision we made over 4 years ago (back when the house was just one story and this was the only bedroom) and I just can’t remember now. Glass doors are incredibly charming but can be tough in a bedroom for privacy and light reasons. But that’s nothing a good curtain can’t handle…
French door - this door came from Jeld Wen as part of our window and door package. We opted for 5 rows of glass to match the 5 panel doors we had in the bathroom. We painted the door in BM Swiss Coffee.
Door handle - we upgraded all the door knobs in the house with these and they are a joy. They’re unlaquered brass (but come in other finishes). For the bedroom we did a privacy set so you can lock it.
Curtain - I originally looked at premade door curtains but didn’t like what I found. So I ordered an extra panel of the linen curtains we have in this room. They come in sheer, light filtering, and room darkening and we opted for the light filtering for the door and asked my mom to shorten it for me.
Drapery rod - these drapery rods are inexpensive and super easy to hang. We hung the top rod first and let the curtain hang for a bit so the linen could relax. Then we pulled the linen taut and added the the lower rod.
Door stop - The door opens onto the closet wall, so we added a door stop to protect the wall. Opted for these, which includes the brass round panel on the door. They also come in a magnetic option to keep wind from pulling the door closed, which I kinda wish we had opted for.
Hinges - This door originally came with brushed nickel hinges which were fine until we added the brass door knob. Design is in the details, ya know?! So we swapped them out for these inexpensive brass hinges.
Now if I could just help me figure out if I should call this a glass door or French door. Google seems to be confused if French doors require two panels or just one.
