We’ve been loving our garden patio for a couple of months now, and thought it was time to share a DIY. Building a patio and laying pavers is definitely a do-it-yourself kind of project. It’s more labor than skill and relatively affordable. This project is all about the prep, so don’t skimp on that. And you’ll probably need to brush off the old TI-85 (aka calculator) to determine how much gravel and sand you’ll need. But if you have a long-weekend on your hands and a friend or two, this is a project for you!

Happy Friday! Are you enjoying these long summer days as much as me?
We took some time off from our kitchen renovation this week to go camping with the kids on the Washington Coast. We walked the beach, explored the tide pools, hiked in the Hoh Rainforest, and ate our weight in s’mores. A good time was had by all! But after a couple nights of sleeping on the ground, we were all happy to see our beds again. We really need to find ourselves a little camp trailer 🤪

It’s been almost 3 years since we quit our jobs in Seattle, packed up the kids, and moved back to the small town where Garrett and I grew up (Ellensburg WA). ‘Early retirement’, as we call the transition, has been an experiment in ‘working for ourselves’ as full-time landlords and parents and part-time renovators, bloggers, and volunteers.
