14 Flush Mount Lights for Low Ceilings (all under 7" tall)
THE HILL HOUSE
I’m a traditional lighting kind of gal (give me a schoolhouse fixture any day!), but when it came to choosing light fixtures for our 7’ ceilings upstairs at the Hill House, I had to branch out. Our vertically-challenged space is cozy and lovely, but it just can’t handle the chunkier fixtures I prefer. And I was really surprised how hard it was to find flush mount lights that are beautiful and low-profile. Sure, recessed can lighting was an option, but I knew we could do better. So I went down a bit of a rabbit hole and found 14 lovely flush mount and semi-flush mount light fixtures. These are all under 7" tall (no need to risk of a head bump when walking by ;) and they would work beautifully in an old house or a new one. Because short ceilings deserve good lighting, too!
I opted for quality fixtures in this round up - the Hill House is a ‘buy it once’ kind of home - but there are a couple of budget lights in here. For our upstairs, we were looking for a brass finish but many of these lights come in a black or nickel option as well. Let’s get to it…
1 LED 10” flush mount fixture $679 - inspired by my favorite school house lights and constructed of solid brass we picked this one for both upstairs bathrooms (also comes in 8” and 12” wide) 3.62” tall
2 Classic schoolhouse with 3-1/4” fitter $229 - shown with cased white faceted drum shade, this light is a vintage reproduction and crafted from solid brass, a bit too tall for our space but I LOVE it!, 7” tall
3 Steel and gold flush mount $200 - sleek and sculptural this light is a touch of modern but really fun, 6.75”
4 Signature basil 11” flush mount $799 - these lights are gorgeous in person and worth the splurge if you have the budget, also comes in 17” width, 5.5” tall
5 Wavy blue Irish ceramic light $239 - handcrafted in Ireland, this light is a stunner, 5.12” tall
6 Classic LED 12” flush mount $329 - a simple, classic, super low-profile fixture with a 320000 hour lifespan (never have to change a lightbulb!), I picked this one for the kids’ bedrooms, 3.125” tall
7 Art Deco flush mount $319 - this fixture is 12” wide and made in Pennsylvania by a brand we love, 6.5” tall
8 Star flush mount $849 - a splurge for sure but this lovely LED star fixture is 11.5” wide and would look so lovely in a kids room or hallway, 5.5” tall
9 2-light glass flush mount $149 - a 13.25” bowl-shaped flush mount that comes in many other metal finishes, would be perfect for hallways, bathrooms, landings, and bedrooms, 4.75” tall
10 Geometric steel flush mount $150 - an understated modern fixture, the windowpanes that help the light look light and airy, 5” tall
11 Large clover flush mount $179 - a large (14” wide) flush mount fixture with ribbed glass, this one feels kind of glam and really fun, 6” tall
12 Drum flush mount $55 - a solid budget option, this simple and textural flush mount would work well in a living room or entry, 5.5” tall
13 Opal curvy flush mount $268 - with a beautiful curved glass shade, this fixture would work well in a bedroom or living room, 5.75” tall
14 Flower flush mount fixture $799 - a large (13.5” wide) fixture with decorative canopy, comes in silver and black as well, 4.25” tall
So much better than recessed cans :)
Here’s what number one looks like in our hall bathroom…
I really love it! These LED fixtures are pretty crazy (they last something like 300000 hours and don’t have a bulb to change) and they have such a lovely warm and cozy glow. They don’t put out a ton of light so you definitely want to make sure to have sconces or other lighting. Layered lighting is always the anwer :)
Okay, that’s it for today! Some lovely lights for spaces with short ceilings.
