Happy Friday! 10/2/26
Happy Friday! And hello from England! Garrett and I planned a big walking holiday through the Cotswolds for our anniversary, and when the kids caught wind of it, they wanted to come too :) So all five of us flew to England, fought off jet lag in London, saw as much as we could, and then hopped a train for the Cotswolds.
A few early observations: everything in England is impossibly charming, top sheets are optional?, English definitely sounds better with an accent, dogs are welcome everywhere, pub culture is alive and well (and thankfully the beer is much less boozy than what we’re used to), front doors come in the prettiest blues and greens and blacks (see below!), “give way” means yield, and walking and biking are simply part of everyday life. Oh, and everything is OLD. Like, so beautifully, wonderfully old. I am completely smitten!
Wishing you a lovely weekend!
the prettiest green door in Painswick (and yes I photoshopped myself in here because moms deserve to be in some photos, too ;)
A few things that caught my eye this week:
This summer, we spent a day with the team from Blue Jeans Go Green (a denim recycling initiative). They trailed us from the Hill House to our local hardware store to a bbq in Nana’s backyard and we even got our hands on some of the recycled denim house insulation. It’s such a great program and you can see it here.
Can you believe this house is a new build?! Melissa Oholendt at Oho Interiors is one of the best.
Ooo this is a lovely fall look. Loving all the silk scarfs lately.
Have you seen the new Sense and Sensibility movie yet?! I can’t wait!
This week we answered a question we’ve gotten a lot of: can you restore unlacquered brass back to it’s original bright state? We did a little experiment to find out.
Apparently I like 3/4” grout lines now.
During our time in London, Leanne from Good Bones London invited us over for coffee and cake and my goodness, her 1880s Victorian home is even better in person. Also her apple cake is delicious and apparently easy to make!
MVP of our travels are these rechargeable portable power banks. They magnetically attach to our phones (no cords required) and I’ve used them daily to charge my phone and even my laptop in a pinch.
Everything you need to know about wood paneling in a home. As paneling-enthusiasts, it’s great to read someone else’s take. I would just add that it’s a incredibly durable if you have rowdy kids :)
Talking to your sons about the Cornell sexual assault allegations.
And I know I mentioned it last week, but this book recommendation that you guys gave me is so SO good! I haven’t had a ton of time for reading on our travels but I’m so deeply invested in this story (can’t wait for it to become a series!).
Have a good one!
