Happy Friday! 9/11/26
Happy Friday! The kids started school this week, which means it's officially been three years since we packed up our big, beautiful Farmhouse moved into the Hill House. Three years! I still remember that first week so clearly. We plopped mattresses on the floor and moved in with toothbrushes, clothes, and hardly any furniture. We told ourselves we'd figure out the rest as we went. And we have. Sort of ;)
But this week, I found myself missing the finished Farmhouse and wondering what all this renovating has meant for our family. The short version: I needed a reminder of why we chose this house in the first place. The longer, more honest version is in this week's newsletter. Sign up below and I'll send it over.
A few things that caught my eye this week:
“In Heidi Caillier's cozy new home, floral patterns and a bright red kitchen bring the Victorian house to life.” As the kids say, Heidi is the GOAT! How one can create something bold like a red kitchen, and for it to feel elegant and classic and not too much, is a skill I’ll never possess.
What it’s like to furnish your first home when your parents are antique dealers.
My sister had on the cutest jeans when I saw her over Labor Day and she turned me onto these $50 barrel leg jeans. They have a gentle barrel for a fresh feel but still look pretty classic.
I made this white bean chicken chili recipe in the crock pot for dinner this week and couldn’t wait for my lunch leftovers all week. Fall has officially arrived :)
Did you know you could make your own window cleaner? Use white wine to clean red wine stains? Use charcoal in the fridge to clear odors? This homemaking book blew me away!
The Practical Magic sequel is here! The Owens sister’s home is iconic as they come, but the grand Victorian in the movie was actually just a temp home built right here in Washington state (and promptly demolished 😭). But it was brought back to life for the second movie and you can tour it here.
Have clothes gotten worse, or am I imagining it? This was a fascinating read on what’s changed in the fashion industry.
A case for a pool. And living in France ;)
The perfect book to pick up this time of year (especially with the movie coming out!). The whole series is a forever favorite of mine.
And goodness, 25 years since September 11th. Thinking of all those who lost family and friends that day 🤍
