Happy Friday! Making the First Bed + A Week of Finishing Touches

Happy Friday! How was your week?

I made my first bed at the Hill House this week, which felt a little surreal. It was the daybed in Brooks’ room -the one Daphne will use while we’re all living upstairs at the start (a bit of a musical rooms situation for a while!). We’re not quite there yet - we still have the second upstairs bathroom to renovate - but we’re deep into those final finishing touches in a lot of spaces, and wow… it feels good!

Wishing you a lovely weekend ahead 🤍

This Week at the Hill House

  • wrapped up paneling + trim details (LINK)

  • Added bedding to the ‘green room’ (that pink linen quilt!)

  • finalized hardware and hinges for our salvaged doors (after a few tries!)

  • started installing the custom drawer boxes and closet doors we ordered from a local company

Featured This Week

We finally shared our full post on the paneling and trim this week—this has been one of the most requested topics for a reason.

There are so many small decisions that go into getting paneling to feel right in an old house, and we broke down everything we learned:

  • layout + proportions

  • exact materials

  • installation notes

  • and what we’d do again

A few things that caught my eye this week…

Katie LeClercq turned a dilapidated 600sf garage into a serene studio and mother-in-law unit. Wow, what a dream!

Garrett has been very into the idea of trying a house swap. Would you ever?!

I’m the third person in my family to read this book (Garrett and our 12-year-old both loved it, too) and I can’t wait to watch the movie.

We hoped a ferry to San Juan Island this week with family friends - such magical place! And when it rained (because March in the PNW!) we played this game - such a hoot!

Gil Schafer + Rita Konig are my dream team. Scroll down and watch “Making a Good House…” - it’s basically a mini education on their design philosophy. So good!

Wishing you a lovely weekend, wherever it takes you!
